Privateer Cutlass

Here is the next project I'm working on, a early 1700's cutlass.

I forged the blade about two months ago but had a couple of commissions that I needed to get done first. Here is the blade during the testing process:

  1. Oh, I like it! How did you add the fullers?

  2. I used a scraper and then a matching sanding block.

  3. Very cool! Glad to see this is going to be finished--I was excited when I saw the test thread on Don's forum a few months back.

  4. Could I get more info on the scraper? Did you construct it yourself? If possible, could you add a picture of it? I'm planning on constructing a scraper that uses carbide blades like this: http://www.amazon.com/BAHCO-PREMIUM-CARBIDE-SCRAPER-REPLACEMENT/dp/B0001P0PJA/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1263334354&sr=8-10

    Any tips?

  5. I made it myself by grinding the profile I needed and leaving a "tab at one side to set the distance from the edge of the blade. I'll try to add a picture, but things are kind of crazy here at the moment.

  6. Don't mean to be a pest, but just a reminder about a picture of your scraper. Thanks!
